Tamás Almási is a founding member of DocNomads program, and was the course director at SZFE Budapest from 2012 to 2018. He holds a DLA, and has many years of experience as a professor (dr. habil). As a filmmaker he has been directing documentaries and feature films.

His works were screened and broadcasted worldwide and have been awarded at a number of highly prestigious festivals in Europe and overseas, among them, the Sarajevo Film Festival’s Special Jury Prize (2015), the 54th Semana Internacional de Cine, Valladolid 2009 (Main Prize); Houston World Fest 2009 (Silver Remy Prize); Cairo International Film Festival 2008; Houston World Fest 2005 (Gold Prize of the Jury); FIPA - Biarritz 1997, 2002; Cinema du Réel - Paris 1999 (Special mention of Prix International de la SCAM); Chicago 1998 (Silver Plaque in the International Television Competition); Golden Gate Awards - San Francisco 1997 (Certificate of Merit); Karlovy Vary 1997 (Special mention for documentary); Prix Italia Television Naples 1996 (Documentary Awards Special Commendation); Prix Europa - Berlin 1992, 1996; Nyon Documentary Festival 1992 (Silver Sestertius Award); CILECT Festival, Washington 1977 (Main Prize).

He won six times the main documentary film award of the Hungarian Film Week, and in 2010 he was awarded the Kossuth Prize, the most prestigious award Hungary gives to outstanding artists.

He had served as a jury member at several Hungarian and international film festivals, and has given lectures in Europe and overseas. He is a tenured professor at the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest (SZFE), head of the Documentary Film Directing Master Program (DokMA) at SZFE, founding member of the Doctoral School of the University, and president of the Film and Video Habilitation Committee.
